 infoRabbi Chanina Segan HaKohanim (The Deputy High Priest) Rabbi Chanina was a Tanna - first generation. He was the deputy Kohen Gadol at the end of the Second Temple period (Yoma 39a). Two halachot in his name are mentioned in Tosefta, regarding the laws of ritual purity (Terumot 9:10, Nega'im 8:6); transmits details about customs prevalent in Temple times (Misnah Eduyot 2:3; Menachot 10:1) and about the Temple service from his knowledge of his father's customs (Mishnah Zevachim 9:3) and from those of the other kohanim (Mishnah Pesachim 1:6; Eduyot 2:1-2) In connection with the prohibition against bathing on the Ninth of Av, he said, "The house of God merits that for its sake a man should forgo an immersion once a year" (Taanit 13a) He taught: "Great is peace which is equal to the whole act of creation" (Sifri Devarim 42). He said : "Pray for the welfare of the government, because if not for fear of it, a person would swallow his fellow alive."  textרבי חנינא סגן הכהנים <a href="https://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%A7%D7%95%D7%91%D7%A5:%D7%A8%D7%91%D7%99_%D7%96%D7%9B%D7%A8%D7%99%D7%94_%D7%91%D7%9F_%D7%94%D7%A7%D7%A6%D7%91_%D7%95%D7%A8%D7%91%D7%99_%D7%97%D7%A0%D7%99%D7%A0%D7%90_%D7%A1%D7%92%D7%9F_%D7%94%D7%9B%D7%94%D7%A0%D7%99%D7%9D.jpg"><img alt="" src="https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e7/%D7%A8%D7%91%D7%99_%D7%96%D7%9B%D7%A8%D7%99%D7%94_%D7%91%D7%9F_%D7%94%D7%A7%D7%A6%D7%91_%D7%95%D7%A8%D7%91%D7%99_%D7%97%D7%A0%D7%99%D7%A0%D7%90_%D7%A1%D7%92%D7%9F_%D7%94%D7%9B%D7%94%D7%A0%D7%99%D7%9D.jpg/250px-%D7%A8%D7%91%D7%99_%D7%96%D7%9B%D7%A8%D7%99%D7%94_%D7%91%D7%9F_%D7%94%D7%A7%D7%A6%D7%91_%D7%95%D7%A8%D7%91%D7%99_%D7%97%D7%A0%D7%99%D7%A0%D7%90_%D7%A1%D7%92%D7%9F_%D7%94%D7%9B%D7%94%D7%A0%D7%99%D7%9D.jpg" style="height:160px; width:250px" /></a> קבר רבי זכריה בן הקצב ורבי חנינא סגן הכהנים באזור כפר חנניה רבי חנינא (חנניה) סגן הכהנים, תנא בדור הראשון. חי בזמן חורבן בית שני והעיד, לאחר החורבן, על מה שראה בבית המקדש. בנו היה רבי שמעון בן הסגן. בספר 'יחוסי תנאים ואמוראים' נכתב שנהרג יחד עם רבן שמעון בן גמליאל הזקן ועם רבי ישמעאל בן אלישע כהן גדול. יש גורסים שהיה מבין עשרת הרוגי מלכות ונהרג בכ"ה בסיוון (טור ושולחן ערוך, אורח חיים סימן תק"פ). תוארו ניתן לו בזכות תפקידו - שימש כסגנו של הכהן הגדול בבית המקדש. סגן הכוהנים אחראי על עבודת כל הכוהנים ומיועד להחליף את הכהן הגדול במידה וייפסל לעבודת המקדש. לפיכך היה הסגן השני בחשיבותו לכהן הגדול כפי שמעיד ר' חנינא בעצמו על כך: <blockquote> אמר רבי חנינא סגן הכהנים: למה סגן ממונה? שאם אירע בו פסול בכהן גדול, נכנס ומשמש תחתיו. — <cite>תלמוד בבלי, מסכת סוטה, דף מ"ב, עמוד א' (פרק ח)</cite> </blockquote> רבות מאמרותיו עוסקות בענייני עבודת הכהנים ובית המקדש. עוד מאמרותיו הבולטות: <blockquote> רבי חנינא סגן הכהנים אומר: הוי מתפלל בשלומה של מלכות שאלמלא מוראה איש את רעהו חיים בלעו. — <cite>משנה, מסכת אבות, פרק ג', משנה ב'</cite> </blockquote> חשיבות מיוחדת נתונה לעובדה, שאמרה זו נאמר בשעה שחז"ל מספרים שבדורות החורבן היו כהנים גדולים רבים ש"זכו" במשרתם באמצעות "מינוי מטעם" מהשלטון הרומאי, מינוי שקנו אותו בכסף או בהתחייבויות אחרות, ולא בשל התאמתם לתפקיד, כך שלמרות הבעיות שגורמת המלכות, מדגיש רבי חנינא שעלינו להתפלל לשלומה של מלכות. עוד מציינים חז"ל שבאותה תקופה כהנים גדולים אלה היו מתחלפים מדי שנה, ובמצב כזה כנראה נשאר ר' חנינא בתפקיד הסגן גם כשהתחלפו הכהנים הגדולים בזמן כהונתו. ייתכן שמסיבה זו כונה רבי חנינא "סגן הכהנים" ולא בביטוי "הסגן" השגור לרוב בגמרא. זכותו תגן עלינו ועל כל ישראל. אמן
